Swim to Molokai

from My Favorite Déjà Vu by Raggedy Edge

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

My Favorite Deja Vu shows what Raggedy Edge can be as a quartet, with Dutch Workman on drums and percussion and John Huston stepping in with bass and keyboards. They add a new level of musicianship to the songs of Lynn and Bob. This collection continues Raggedy Edge's refusal to be pigeonholed into a genre as it jumps from country rock, to jazzy country, blues and more.

about

Swim to Molokai was written a couple of years ago as a song about a cowboy having to swim to Molokai, figuratively speaking, to see his girl. After Lynn came into the picture, she thought the verses should be in a different order. I didn't totally agree, but when she asked to write her own version, I said sure. And now that is the standard version. We like the mix of hard-driving acoustic guitars with congas and other percussion.

lyrics

Swim to Molokai
(Farley & Perdzock)
He’s an ocean cowboy without a paddle or canoe
It’s a situation that positively makes me blue
His island home is far from mine, if I'm not to be alone tonite
Gotta fight the riptide and Swim to Molokai

Oh my sweet baby he lives there
He knows exactly why I dare
For his love I challenge sea and sky
Fightin’ the riptide to Swim to Molokai

Campfire, the moon, and my ukulele
Only thing missing is hugging and kissing from my baby
Ocean prairie's deep and wide
I always get a stitch in my side
When I'm fight the riptide to Swim to Molokai

If you've been there you know why I'm so fond of
A little bit of sand and a whole lot of wild blue yonder
He's an island boy, the real McCoy
My heart's tsunami, fills me with joy
So I’ll fight the riptide and Swim to Molokai
