Playground Swings

from My Favorite Déjà Vu by Raggedy Edge

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

My Favorite Deja Vu shows what Raggedy Edge can be as a quartet, with Dutch Workman on drums and percussion and John Huston stepping in with bass and keyboards. They add a new level of musicianship to the songs of Lynn and Bob. This collection continues Raggedy Edge's refusal to be pigeonholed into a genre as it jumps from country rock, to jazzy country, blues and more.

about

Playground Swings is a song for my son's lost youth. Being a father who was lucky enough to grow up with his son, I had a lot of memories to share. Later on, there will be more upbeat tune for this young fellow. He is a most extraordinary dude. One of the three guitars laid down is a "Nashville" tuned instrument that John Houston happened to have lying around the studio. It makes a faux 12-string sound for the song, and John's mixing of the instruments makes it all sound like an orchestra.

lyrics

Playground Swings
(Farley)
Life was so much easier
When all I had was you
Those times went by so quickly
I can’t believe they’re through
We learned about the world we had
Sun and moon and sky
Always something else to do
Something new to try (on)

Playground Swings, soccer dates
Amusement parks and new playmates
Time was something we were made to kill
As I look back upon those days
I knew at last they'd go away
But you know I love you that way still

As we have grown to comfort
In a world so full of dreams
Pages turning way too fast
At least that's how it seems
Remember when it took our breath away
To run beside the fountains
Will you hold my hand someday
And think about the mountains (where we played on)

Living every day, thankful for the past
Praying for a future that allows the dreams to last
so we can play on
