Good Woman Blues

from My Favorite Déjà Vu by Raggedy Edge

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

My Favorite Deja Vu shows what Raggedy Edge can be as a quartet, with Dutch Workman on drums and percussion and John Huston stepping in with bass and keyboards. They add a new level of musicianship to the songs of Lynn and Bob. This collection continues Raggedy Edge's refusal to be pigeonholed into a genre as it jumps from country rock, to jazzy country, blues and more.

about

Good Woman Blues is a happy blues song, an oxymoron, some say. But the title had enough leeway for two sides of the story to be told, and with the gutsy Hammond organ from John Houston (who also laid down the bass), it makes what our Ohio-based drummer Dave Randall calls a pretty good blues song. Funny story: the stick clicks on the verse Lynn sings came about because a microphone fell on session drummer Dutch Workman during a take. We thought it was on purpose till it fell apart and then we saw what had happened. No accounting for inspiration, though, so we kept it.

lyrics

Good Woman Blues
(Farley & Perdzock)
My baby says she loves me
but I been gone since way back when
My baby says she loves me
but I been gone since way back when
She wanna give me kisses
but she don't know where in the world I am

I got the Good Woman Blues, she's the only one I'm thinking of
I got the Good Woman Blues, she's the only one I'm thinking of
She wraps her arms around me, I'm like a hand inside a velvet glove

When I go to play around, She won't be found at home waiting for me
When I go to play around, She won't be found at home waiting for me
She come along, sing a song, Bringin' on a high-part harmony

My baby says he loves me but he's been gone since way back when
My baby says he loves me but he's been gone since way back when
He wants to say he loves me but he don't know where in the world I'll be

I got the Good Woman Blues, he's the only one I'm thinking of
I got the Good Woman Blues, he's the only one I'm thinking of
Wanna wrap my arms around him,
Make him like a hand inside a velvet glove

When I go to play around, she won't be found at home waiting for me
When he goes to play around, I won't be found at home waiting, not me
Come along , sing a song, bringin' on a high part harmony

I got the Good Woman Blues, Got the Good Woman Blues
Got the Good Woman Blues, got the Good Woman Blues
Got the Good Woman Blues, she's the only one I'm thinkin of
